Tuesday's Daily Brief: Taking the Third Metric Abroad: Redefining Success Goes Global; Taliban Storm Prison In Pakistan And Free 250 Prisoners

Tuesday, July 30, 2013
Arianna Huffington: I'm in London for the first international edition of our Third Metric conference, discussing a more sustainable definition of success that includes well-being, wisdom, and our ability to wonder and to give back. Why are we taking the conversation international? Because, while creation of the faulty definition of success definitely had significant help from the U.S., it's clear this is now a global phenomenon. That's why we'll be holding more events like the one today -- so people can connect, learn from each other, exchange ideas and truly begin to ingrain healthier habits and restructure the way we live our daily lives. Our unsustainable definition of success is a global problem, and it's going to require a global response. I hope you'll join the conversation and tell us how you're redefining success in your own life and in your part of the world.

Scott Paul: Obama's Amazon Economy
The President will be speaking about rebuilding America's middle class from the depths of an Amazon warehouse in Tennessee. His message and the site from which he'll deliver it are dissonant, given Amazon's prominence as a massive importer and employer of temporary workers.

What really sticks out to me in all the commentary is the inherent idiocy of Green's central (read: only) assertion: that Aslan's "Muslim-ness" somehow disqualifies him from writing about Jesus.

Before I was married, I experienced a lot of these signs from many unattainable men. Men that made me think if I just stuck it out, they would end up becoming my boyfriend.
Jason Whitlock: Looking for Televised Insight Into Black Condition Is Hopeless
The uniqueness of the black American experience and the side effects of that experience are not difficult to relate to, convey or understand. It's just that most pundits and broadcasters are far too lazy, scared and convinced of viewer ignorance to go beyond simple-minded, attention-grabbing sound bites.
Anca Dumitru: Are You Taking Charge of Your Stressful Life?
'd been ignoring my symptoms for quite a while: I could no longer focus, I was exhausted, demotivated and unproductive. The closer I would get to my office building every morning, the more I'd become nauseous at the thought of having to go through the same routine all over again.
